The present work embodies the result of more than ten years floristic and utility of plant resources survey of one of the remote areas of the Eastern Ghats region comprising four districts of Orissa viz Rayagada Koraput Nowrangpur and Malkangiri. The Koraput region is rich in plant wealth and for long time this area was under explored. The study covers an area of 26 921sq km and the total number of species described are 582 (324 genera and 100 families) that includes several rare/endangered and endemic taxa along with 19 photographs and 16 line diagrams. Keys to the families genera and species (based on modified Bentham and Hooker's System) have been provided to help identification. Systematic enumeration includes species nomenclature diagnostic description and local names. Phytogeographically the area is most interesting as its floristic composition represents an admixture of the northern tropical and temperate elements with those of the Deccan elements and a meeting ground of southern and northern type of forests. The book will be useful to teachers scholars and students of botany agriculture and forestry and to plant lovers and such others. 394 pp.

References. The concept of healthy or the functional food is becoming popular in global food scenario because of its positive link with spreading of lifestyle diseases. As a consequence of this, the evaluation of nutritional and functional quality of food and food ingredients is becoming indispensable. Coldwater fish not only contains long-chain n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 LC-PUFAs; eicosapentaenoic acid, EPA and docosahexaenoic acid, DHA), but it is also a source of other health promoting bioactive components, such as vitamin D and A, selenium, iron, zinc, manganese, etc. Fish is a rich source of protein. Because of the presence of these intrinsically balanced desirable nutrients and inherent bio-active components, fish comes to everyone's plate irrespective of rich or poor, young or old, healthy or unhealthy. Considering the importance of fish in human health, ICAR-Directorate of Coldwater Fisheries Research (ICAR-DCFR), Bhimtal took the responsibility of evaluating the nutrient composition of coldwater fishes under the umbrella of ICAR's network project #3 "Nutrient profiling and evaluation of fish as a dietary component" with a view to generate knowledge base on nutrient quality and to popularize fish consumption. With the sincere efforts of the ICAR-DCFR, nutrient composition data of 24 coldwater fish species are now available and we are sure that the present book "Fish as Health Food" will provide very useful information on the nutrient profile of coldwater fishes and their prospects in human nutrition for consumers. From the preface: The alimentary canal of fishes is generally adapted to their feeding habits as fishes occupy different ecological niches and tropic levels and face the challenges of a complex aquatic life. The alimentary canal of a teleost successfully accomplishes a variety of functions inspite of being of a simpler form than that of the higher vertebrates. A study of this feature has been attempted by several investigators in the past. The morphology of the organs of alimentation in fishes attracted the attention of ichthyologists and naturalists since very early times. Aristotle (384-322 B.C.) undoubtedly observed the palatal organ of the carp Cyprinus which he noted to be so fleshy as to be mistaken for a tongue. This interesting sense organ was regarded as a tongue by fishermen and was first redescribed by Rondelet 1554 and again by Swammerdam in 1667, its gustatory nature was first maintained by Weber 1827. The comparative anatomy of the grey mullet was noted.
