Hard back binding in publisher's original half black leather covers, gold paper covered boards, gilt title and author lettering to the spine, silt tie in place, marble paper end papers. 8vo. 7'' x 5''. Contains [xvi] 443 + iii printed pages of French text. Text to spine slightly dulled and in Very Good clean condition. Danton's role in the onset of the Revolution has been disputed; many historians describe him as "the chief force in the overthrow of the French monarchy and the establishment of the First French Republic". He was guillotined by the advocates of revolutionary terror after accusations of venality and leniency toward the enemies of the Revolution. Member of the P.B.F.A. FRANCE [Literature & History).

Original-Stahlstich von Carl Mayer (in der Platte signiert) auf aufgewalztem China auf rückseitig unbedrucktem Blatt mit dekorativ abgesetztem Plattenrand, Plattengröße ca. 18,5 x 13 cm, Blattgröße ca. 27 x 23 cm, ein kleiner Braunpunkt am linken unteren Rand der bildlichen Darstellung, ansonsten sauber und sehr gut erhalten 2100 gr.

Blattgröße: 375 x 225 mm (bis an die äußere Einfassungslinie beschnitten). *Bildnis des Georges Jacques Danton (geb. 1759 in Arcis-sur-Aube; gest. 1794 in Paris), er war einer der Führer der Französischen Revolution, Leiter des ersten Wohlfahrtsausschusses und verfügte über ein großes Redetalent. Er setzte sich 1794 für ein Ende der "Terreurs" ein und wurde daraufhin von Robespierre gestürzt und zusammen mit einigen seiner Anhänger guillotiniert. - Aus dem Ergänzungsband der bedeutenden Kupferstichfolge "Collection complete des Tableaux Historiques de la Revolution Francaise", hier aus einem Exemplar der ersten Ausgabe, in welcher 60 Portraits in Gr.-Folio auf Velin ab "an 7" (= 1798) in Lieferungen erschienen. Das Medaillon-Portrait von Charles Francois G. Levachez (1760-1820) in Aquatinta oder Schabkunst, die historischen Szenen in Radierung von Jean Duplessi-Bertaux (1750-1818), der im Begleittext des Werkes als "le Callot de nos jours" bezeichnet wird. - Außenränder beschnitten bis auf die äußere Einfassungslinie, sonst gut erhalten. Sprache: Deutsch Gewicht in Gramm: 1000.

Zustand: Very good. - Quarto, 9-1/2 inches high by 7-3/4 inches wide. Softcover, bound in printed self wraps. 3 pages, plus a blank page. There are stitch holes along the left edge and the pamphlet is folded in half horizontally. An early owner's name is penned at the top of the cover page with numbers penned near the top corners of the first and third pages. Very good. Signed in print "Claviere" and countersigned "Danton" at the end of the text on page 3.[Goldsmiths'-Kress no. 15220].

April 1794 in Paris) war einer der Führer der unteren Volksschichten in der Französischen Revolution und Leiter des ersten Wohlfahrtsausschusses. Am 30. März 1794 wurde Danton verhaftet, nach kurzem Prozess vor dem Revolutionstribunal als vermeintlicher Revolutionsgegner verurteilt und am 5. April mit 13 seiner Anhänger (Dantonisten) guillotiniert. - Großes vollrandiges Bildnis, sauber und sehr gut erhalten. Sprache: Französisch Gewicht in Gramm: 1000.

The hand written letter being a decree of the National Assembly related to the 10th August Storming of the Tuileries Palace and the Swiss Guards behaviour, stating `By decree, the National Assembly establishes that the Minister of war will send an urgent report to this Assembly explaining the reasons which have forced Captains Buxdorf, Bourcand and Salis Scevis to resignate and about Lieutenant Colonel Bachman s behaviour. Niklaus Franz von Bachmann (1740-1831) Swiss General of the Napoleonic wars. Brother of Karl Joseph von Bachmann, Commander of the Swiss Guards. Bachman is at the origin of the today s date flag, being the first during the Second Coalition to re-introduce to his troops the old Swiss symbol of the white cross on a red field which had not been used anymore since the Middle Ages.
