He became physician of the University of Paris in 1697 and, by support of Fontenelle, an associate member of the the Academy of Sciences in 1699. He died of tuberculosis at a young age of 31. Première édition, rare. Tauvry donne une description anatomique de l'appareil de reproduction de la femme, compare…différents embryons dans l'espèce animale et fait une analyse détaillée de la nutrition du fœtus, en discutant les opinions des différents auteurs ; la deuxième partie correspond à la Réplique aux réponses de Mr Mery. Certaines idées émises sont erronées, mais Tauvry a le mérite de défendre la théorie ovulaire et de reconnaître la circulation du sang fœtal par le trou de Botal, avec passage du sang de l'oreillette droite vers l'oreillette gauche. Une longue et fameuse polémique l'opoosa à Méry. De plus, Tauvry semble être le premier à défendre l'existence d'une déglutition du liquide amniotique par le fœtus. Il estime que le fœtus bénéficie d'une double source de nutrition, par la veine ombilicale issue du placenta, et par la voie buccale aux dépend du liquide amniotique. Par ailleurs, Tauvry attire l'attention sur la diminution de volume du thymus après la naissance. Daniel Tauvry (1670-1701), né à Laval, fut initié à la médecine par son père, médecin de l'hôpital, puis se rendit à Paris, où il suivit les leçons de Duverney. Il devint docteur régent de la faculté de médecine de Paris et membre de l'Académie des sciences. Il mourut de tuberculose à l'âge de 31 ans. P.Delaunay. Tauvry was a Member of the College of Physicians at Paris, until his death in 1701. Complete with frontispiece and 21 additional numbered plates. [8], 144, 161-301,…[9] pp. Leaves K7 and K8 appear to be stubbed in cancels, with rather incorrect pagination. Despite the jump in pagination between pp. 144 and 161 (K8v and L1r), the beginning of Part 2, the text appears complete. Dampstaining and rippling to the text. Plate 18 has a 7 cm closed tear extending from the bottom edge. Japanese tissue repair to the joints, near the head of the spine. Hinges cracked but holding well. Beginning of separation at the bottom of the joints. Front board bowed at the edges. Full calf, overly mottled in the center panels of the boards, with blindstamped decorations reminiscent of a Cambridge binding. Titling in ink on the spine, now faded. (ESTC T153620). Good binding.
