Light foxing to boards. Green dyed page edges with rubbing and foxing. Binding slightly strained in a couple of places. Illustrated endpapers. Light foxing throughout the text. All 28 colour plates are present and in excellent condition. Gift inscription to half title page, dated 1907. A highly important landmark in the complicated publishing history of Peter Pan. Originally written by Barrie as a stage play and first performed in December 1904. By 1905 the hugely popular play was still not available in any printed form and Barrie gave his blessing for an abridged children's version of the story to be published. The task was undertaken by Daniel O'Connor and in 1906 the Peter Pan Keepsake was issued - a paperback souvenir brochure with photos of the cast, available at the theatre. The text from the brochure was then amended again to produce this volume in 1907. This edition was the first appearance of the Peter and Wendy story in book form and the first to feature the wonderful Alice B. Woodland illustrations. J.M. Barrie eventually published his own expanded version in 1911 and the original play was finally published in 1928. Scarce. Overall condition is Very Good Minus.
