Special limited edition souvenir of the thirteenth annual Lincoln Dinner of the Republican Club of the city of New-York, 1899. Duodecimo, original half-cloth with gilt titles to the spine, frontispiece of Abraham Lincoln, illustrated. One of 500 numbered copies, this is number 126. Boldly signed on the front free endpaper in pencil by President Theodore Roosevelt, General Nelson A. Miles, and Admiral W. S. Schley, and on the front pastedown by Republican politician Chauncey M. Depew. Theodore Roosevelt was an American statesman, author, explorer, soldier, naturalist, and reformer who served as the 26th President of the United States from 1901 to 1909. As a leader of the Republican Party during this time, he became a driving force for the Progressive Era in the United States in the early 20th century. In very good condition with light soiling. Accompanied by an original program from the dinner, which took place at Delmonico's on February 13, 1899, and featured toasts by Roosevelt, Miles, and Schley, with Depew acting as toastmaster. In near fine condition. Housed in the original cloth slipcase, in very good condition. Rare and desirable, especially signed Abraham Lincoln served as the 16th President of the United States from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. He led the United States through its Civil War, and in doing so preserved the Union of the United States of America, abolished slavery, and strengthened the federal government. 'Lincoln and His Cabinet: A Lecture Delivered Before the New Haven Colony Historical Society, Tuesday, March 10, 1896' by journalist and Assistant Secretary of War Charles Anderson Dana offers a reflective analysis of Abraham Lincolnâs leadership through the lens of his interactions with the members of his Cabinet during the Civil War.
