Hardcover. Zustand: Very good. Thomas H. John Staff Artist (illustrator). Presumed First Edition, First printing. xii, 235, [1] pages. Illustrated endpapers. Illustrations (a few in color). Map. Dornbusch 1348. Format is approximately 8.5 inches by 10.5 inches. This is the third volume of the history of the 2d U.S. Infantry Division in the Korean conflict. It covers the period 1 January 1953--31 December 1953. All efforts were directed to give adequate coverage to all units in the division and to present an accurate and objective account of their activities from the end of T-bone action 24, December 52 to the close of the year 1953. The account of tactical operations for infantry united was carried through until 31 December 1952, when the Division was relieved and moved into reserve. Emphasis was placed upon photographs to record forever this period of the Division's history for the men who lived it. The 2nd Infantry Division ("Indianhead"; "2ID," "2nd ID", or "Second D") is a formation of the United States Army. With the outbreak of hostilities in Korea during the summer of 1950, the 2nd Infantry Division was the first unit to reach Korea directly from the United States. The entire division was committed as a unit on 24 August 1950, relieving the 24th Infantry Division at the Naktong River Line. In the 16-day battle, the division's clerks, bandsmen, technical and supply personnel joined in the fight to defend against the attackers. The Chinese winter offensive was finally blunted by the 2nd Infantry Division on 31 January at Wonju. In February 1951, the division repulsed a powerful Chinese counter-offensive in the epic battles of Chipyong-ni and Wonju. In August 1951, it was on the offensive once again, ordered to attack a series of ridges that had been designated threats to the Eighth Army's line. These actions would devolve into the terrible battles that would become Bloody Ridge and Heartbreak Ridge.

The present collection offers a window into the literary world of American poet and humorist Ogden Nash (19021971). It is comprised of 239 volumes published between 1886 and 1971, among which are numerous presentation and association copies. All books in the present collection come from the shared personal library of Ogden and Frances Nash. The collection spans poetry, humor, light verse, and literary criticism, and includes a significant number of first and limited editions, often in original bindings or dust jackets. Of particular note are six books inscribed by Nash to his wife, Frances (including five authored by Nash, one of which is in an "Author's Copy" half-leather binding). Included in the collection are 59 works by Nash, three of which feature edits to the text in Nash's hand. Twenty-seven of these Nash publications are Author's copies bound in half-leather. There are an additional 48 volumes bearing inscriptions to Nash from other authors and poets, most notably twelve volumes inscribed by S.J. Perelman. Among the 132 uninscribed volumes included here, 45 bear Ogden Nash's ownership inscription (10 bear the ownership inscription of Frances Nash). The number and range of authorial inscriptions represented in the present collections reflect Nash's wide-ranging literary friendships and professional associations. Notable among these are twelve warmly inscribed titles by humorist S.J. Perelman, whose acerbic wit is on display in a series of affectionate, playful, and sometimes satirical inscriptions to both Nash and his wife, Frances. These volumes also reflect Perelman and Nash's shared experiences in Hollywood and the literary scene of mid-century America. Other highlights include inscriptions from John Betjeman, Christopher Morley, E.C. Bentley, A.P. Herbert, David McCord, William Plumer Fowler, and Holger Lundbergh, among otherseach evidencing Nash's influence and the esteem in which he was held across literary and cultural circles in the U.S. and the U.K. O.

Hardcover. Zustand: Near Fine. First edition. Octavo. 558pp. Green cloth gilt. Bookplate and signature of a noted American psychologist, tiny bump at the top corner of a few pages, very near fine without dust jacket. A nice copy of this psychology study, co-authored by C. Daly King, a psychologist who also authored several highly collected mystery novels about a group of psychologists, "The Obelists," who travel around solving crimes. This title is co-authored with William Moulton Marston, the creator of Wonder Woman and the inventor of an early lie detector test, and with Marston's wife, Elizabeth, who along with their polyamorous partner Olive Byrne, were in large part the inspiration for the character Wonder Woman. All three authors are seen in the frontispiece photo monitoring the vital signs of two other subjects. The first edition is very uncommon.

First Edition. Octavo. 179, [4]pp. 8 plates. Red cloth gilt. Faint dampstain on rear board, near fine in a very good dust jacket with a corresponding stain on the rear panel and encroaching a little at the crown and edge of the front panel. In this comprehensive treatise, Marston traces the millennia-long quest for reliable truth detection, establishing the scientific principle that blood pressure elevates measurably when subjects knowingly employ deception. The work addresses both legal precedents and practical applications across diverse fields including law enforcement, business, and personal relationships. Though Elizabeth Holloway Marston, his wife and fellow psychologist, is not listed as a collaborator on the title page, she was instrumental in the invention and development of the blood pressure polygraph, with her fundamental contributions acknowledged by contemporary sources. Beyond its scientific significance, this work documents Marston's transition from academic psychologist to cultural entrepreneur. The same year this book appeared, he leveraged his lie detector fame in Gillette razor advertisements, beginning a trajectory that would eventually lead him to create Wonder Woman under the pseudonym Charles Moulton in 1941.
