(page x, Introduction includes reference to a publication from 1980)].This is the text of an 1864 diary by Lt.-Col. Edward Arthur Williams. Edited by B. J Dalton. [1], xv, [3], (2)-65 leaves. With 22 tipped-in laser printed illustrations, of which 1 is an illustration of the author, and 21 are colour photocopies of the sketches in Williams's diary. Red plastic "Gestetner Velo-Bind" stationery binding, with clear plastic covers. Leaves printed on one side only. Page dimensions: A4 (297 x 210mm). Appears to be a photocopied typescript. No publisher's imprint. Presumably only a few copies printed in this form. "I am grateful to T.P. Garrity, Curator of Pictures, Hocken Library for permission to produce this edition of the Williams' Journal, and to Rosemary Entwhistle who introduced me to the other splendid Williams' paintings in the Hocken collection." - from the Acknowledgements, page xv. Williams was a commander of the Royal Artillery who served in New Zealand from 1864 to 1866. You can view many of these sketches online via Hakena. There is also a diary of Williams [Misc-MS-1085] describing, possibly in an exaggerated or fictional style, a colonel's journey through the Waikato in 1864."] B. J.
