Hardcover. Zustand: As New. Leichte Abnutzungen. The second edition of this atlas provides a detailed histopathological diagnosis of cervical disease emphasizing carcinogenesis, and correlating morphologic changes with clinical aspects. Instructions of how to obtain and handle tissue samples are followed by a description of the normal histology, of the action of steroid hormones on the cervix, and of the various forms of regeneration and inflammation. The section on etiology and pathogenesis of HPV-induced neoplasia has been enlarged to explain new insights into cellular and nuclear deregulation at the molecular level. A chapter on immunohistochemistry has been added which includes refined detection methods, e.g., with p16 for the early differential diagnosis of premalignant lesions. The latest advances in molecular biological research, with predictive subdivision of neoplasias, facilitate the choice of the proper therapy. All chapters - supported by over 20 new microphotographs - have been revised to include advances in the interpretation and management of cervical disease. The tumor nomenclature is adapted to the new WHO classification; the ICD-O code has been added. The reference list is updated with relevant publications.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Neuware -Although the purpose and scope of this monograph remain unchanged, I have been obliged to revise and rewrite many sections to keep pace with the recent growth in knowledge of endometrial pathology and physiology. New knowledge emanates from every quarter, engendered by improved meth ods of study in virtually every subspecialty, by exemplary cooperation between disciplines, and especially by the exchange of ideas internationally. On the other hand, the catalogue of diseases is everchanging. Some, once common, become rare or even disappear. Others suddenly appear, unique and previously unknown. Increased longevity, modern ways of living and new methods of treat ment have modified or augmented the clinical and diagnostic problems confront ing us. Accordingly, therapy with hormones and intrauterine contraception re ceive special attention, commensurate with the importance afforded them today. Under the precept 'nil nocere,' the almost unlimited uses for these agents warrant that their effects be carefully monitored by precise morphological stud ies, a prerequisite that succeeds only when clinician and pathologist cooperate closely. The sections on procedures for obtaining endometrial tissue, on steroid receptors, on functional disturbances, and on spontaneous abortion have been changed or expanded to incorporate new facts from recent discoveries that now appear significant. Only time, however, will prove their true value. Much of historical interest in the text has been left intact, for 'who wants to read into the future, must consult the past' (Andre Malraux). 376 pp. Englisch.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Few subjects in gynecology, let alone in medicine in general, have provoked such inter est or study as cervical cancer. Although the wealth of monographs and books publish ed on the subject would seem to obviate the need for more, the great advances made in the medical sciences and in gynecological experience and techniques in recent years call for, if not require, a new book on cervical cancer to bring together the latest ideas and trends in its methods of study, diagnosis, and treatment. Although precancerous lesions have become more common, the number of women developing invasive cervical carcinomas has not increased, owing in part to programs of patient education, in part to screening examinations sponsored by the government. The gynecologist is now able to detect with well-tried and proved techniques precan cerous states of the cervix, and to treat these effectively before they become invasive cancer. Accordingly, recent interests in cervical cancer have shifted from the classic descrip tion of invasive carcinoma to newer studies of cause, diagnosis, therapy, and terminol ogy of its precursors. As the reader will learn, epidemiological studies as guides for the future account for, and justifiably so, an important part of this book. New knowledge about changes in the morphology of cervical carcinoma confirms its dependency on hormonal stimulation. Furthermore, modem experiences serve to explain which therapy is best. Overlapping of concepts and opinions between some chapters could not be avoided.
