Critiquing academics who reduce the natural feature to a Simulacrum of Tradition in order to further cynical, modern materialist projects, he exposes 'pop philosophers' and environmentalists-in-name who employ racial and emotional appeals under the guise of 'saving' a particular idea of Uluru. In opposition to this sophistry, Dr. Dailey reflects on what the Rock signifies from a more philosophical, authentically exploratory, perspective. The common belief that Aboriginals have a greater right to determine Uluru's destiny, he observes, is but a new variation on the Myth of the Blood — what Aboriginals are determines what Uluru is. Academics' use of racial tropes to promote 'indigenous peoples' and a religious-hued idea of 'the Environment' are clever devices for cajoling and berating the public into accepting favored interpretations of Uluru as well as nature itself.
