The difference between the proposed model and the Keynesian consumption theory is explained by the fact that the Keynesian consumption theory takes into account the consumption of costumers with no income. The effects of marketing, bank loans and credit debt on consumer spending are also analyzed using the general equation of transport phenomena and mathematical models are presented for the first time. Based on a case study, marketing has increased the utility (driving force) by 61%. Taking into account the theory of consumption smoothing, bank loans also provide the consumer with additional spending power by decreasing the resistance for consumption. In case of excessive debt, customers might spend the money only to buy the 'utility' in order to be able to repay the debt. In this situation, the effects of debt are described in the proposed engineering model as a decrease in income (extra resistance to spend money).…

For every chapter, the teaching strategy followed the three main steps: (a) a basic introduction of the theory, (b) similitude with the selected Analogy, (d) research-based learning: lab experiments or class activities and (e) a conclusion.The main goal of this paper is to show that the use of analogies can be a very helpful tool in order to build a strong engineering foundation for freshmen who lack high school scientific background. To help students shift from the imaginary of the five analogies utilized in the course to the real pictures of some engineering concepts, the similarity to the analogy is followed by a simple lab experiment or a class activity. However, many of our daily activities seem to follow the opposite law, bringing energy from diluted to concentrated areas. As a good example is the heat removed from the inside cool refrigerator to the outside warm kitchen. In order to obey the universal law, an energy need to be added to the pump of the refrigerant. Carbon dioxide emissions to the atmosphere are the result of generating this energy by burning natural resources, instead of using the free endless natural energies.In this consumer-based economy, consumer spending is seen as the 'engine' and the 'driving force' of economic growth. Using a general equation of transport phenomena, a new equation describing consumer spending is introduced in this book as a competition between a driving force and a resistance for spending. Based on this new definition, marketing and advertisement enhance the driving force for spending while the credit card role is to hinder the resistance due to the income. Because of the industrialization and the consumer's economy, the amount of carbon dioxide emitted every year started to increase sharply from the year 1950.In order to increase consumers spending, the strategy and the target of marketing and advertisement departments of many companies is to make us link happiness to comfort and pleasures. A simple case study, based on available data of the year 2011, shows that marketing and credit cards could have increased the energy consumption by 12.3% and added about 1.1 ppm of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.The recent scientific data from climate change conference in Paris seem to tell us that lifestyle and behavioral changes are crucial to avoid more severe consequences of global warming. For example, if one billion households worldwide could save an amount of energy equivalent to one 60 Watt-bulb, the resulting reduction of the total amount of carbon dioxide sent to the atmosphere could represent 3.5% of the total amount needed to be reduced in order to stay in the ceiling of 2C by 2050. The challenge today is to redefine happiness away from consumption in order to avoid more severe natural disasters. Some people are already introducing the new 'minimalist' life style in order to depend less on consumption. Unlike comfort, discomfort is seen as crucial to our pursuit of genuine happiness.…

The students are able to use formulas related to the theory perfectly, but sometimes fail to understand what the basic concepts hidden behind the applications are. As a result, many students do not know how to apply similar formulas in other courses in the department. On the other hand, engineers are problem solvers; they need good critical and creative thinking skills to increase the performance of a process or design a new plant under technical, social, economic, regulatory, and environmental constraints. By consequence, how can engineering students be taught to achieve these goals Literature has shown that effective teachers have succeeded in making students feel good about school and learning, thus increasing student achievement. Moreover, students in an actively taught class do a better job of learning (memorizing) the material they are exposed to, compared to those in a passively taught section. It is also agreed that motivation is probably the most important factor that educators can target in order to improve learning.The main objective of this investigation is to quantify the effects of an active learning strategy on the motivation of students in a process control course. Different from the qualitative methodologies previously presented in the literature, the objective of this first quantitate method is an attempt to measure the impact of an active learning strategy on the motivation of students by introducing a motivation factor for each student calculated from the Final Grade Point (FGP) and the Cumulative Grade point average CGPA. In the first part of the investigation, the Relative Performance (RP) of students is used as a new tool to gauge the effects of the active learning strategy on the performance of students. For the second part of this quantitative method, the Dadach Motivation Factor 'DMF' is introduced in order to measure the effects of the active learning strategy on the motivation of students. For the validation of this first quantitative method, the final results will be compared to the student survey as a qualitative method.…

The second reason for this industrial project is that the standard conditions used for the design of gas turbines are 288K, sea level atmospheric pressure and 60% relative humidity. However, the average summer weather conditions in Abu Dhabi are T=316K and a relative humidity of 50%.
