hardcover. Zustand: Used-Very Good. First Edition. Elephant Folio (42 cm by 30 cm). Full crushed morocco by Sangorski and Sutcliffe, ruled and decorated in gilt (including turn-ins), with raised bands. Some wear to extremities of binding, but very sound and sturdy overall. Top edges gilt. 386 pp. (in 2 volumes). Magnificently illustrated with collotype plates and plans. Of the 300 copies printed for private circulation, this is number 65, presented to Newcomb Carlton (president of the Western Union corporation), and signed on the presentation page by Ernest R. Graham. Graham was a co-founder of the firm, and had previously been a partner of Daniel H. Burnham. An important, sumptuously produced and scarce monograph.
