Groth. ***A very good example in charcoal paper over beige-coloured cloth-covered boards, with a paper label on the spine and front board. The label is very worn on the spine but is still quite clear on the front board, although darkened. However - please note - there is a beautifully preserved spare label set tipped in the back of the book (please see scans). The boards show some marks and rubbing commensurate with age and handling over the last 100 years, but are generally clean, with no significant faults. The spine is quite worn with rubbing to the cloth, but no tears or other damage. The edges and the corner tips of the boards are slightly rubbed. Head and tail of spine slightly frayed and rubbed. No reading lean to the binding, but there is a light vertical reading crease. Page block edges clean - untrimmed at the fore-edge and bottom edge. Internally also very good with no foxing to the pages. Pages clean. No creases or tears. With a previous owner's name - Barbara Steel - on the front free endpaper. There is no obvious weakness to the gutters between gatherings, and no splitting - the binding is holding firm. The paper stock used is nice and thick. A fragile but nicely produced inter-war book.
