Hardback bound in the original tan cloth with gilt titling to spine. 22 × 14cm, viii + 372pp. A thorough survey of athletics, starting with the history of the sport and the Olympics etc, followed by the general principles (training & equipment, printing, running, hurdlin…g, jumping, throwing, walking, relay-racing, tug-of-war), and then ending with athletics for women and boys, and records and statistics. A few line drawings illustrate the text. The authors were both sportsmen. Douglas Lowe was a double Olympic Games champion, winning gold medals in 1924 and 1928. Arthur Porritt was a military surgeon who won bronze medal at the 1924 Summer Olympics in the 100m sprint. Condition: Very good condition for age. The book is in good solid shape, with minor rubbing to the spine ends and boards, and some light scattered foxing to the page edges.
