The book is protected in a removable Secol archival sleeve. Three short essays, compiled by Southern Railway of England for the Royal Jubilee and printed at The Curwen Press, which provide a guide for visiting tourists. The first, entitled 'The Beauty of Southern England', speaks of the chalk cliffs of Dover, the apple orchards of Kent, the South Downs and numerous other Literary connections by Mais, who was famous for his travel guides; the second, 'Social and Sporting Season', discusses Goodwood, cricket at the Oval and Lords, as well as other pastimes such as dances, fishing and bathing by the journalist Charles Graves (brother of Robert); and the final essay 'The Birthplace of English History' gives a run-down of Britain from the stone age to the 19th century, via the Battle of Hastings and Stonehenge. A lovely example with the woodcuts by Ravilious. An increasingly elusive Ravilious ephemeral item. More images available on request. Ashton Rare Books welcomes direct contact.

In den WarenkorbSoft cover. Zustand: Very Good. 1st Edition. First edition, printed at the Curwen press. Small 8vo. 41pp sewn into plain card wrappers with an integral 'crown and sceptre' decorated dust wrapper which exhibits several small areas of light miscellaneous staining and discolouration. With a title page decoration and three delightful Ravilious chapter header wood engravings, plus a five-panel folding map tipped to the inner rear wrapper, as called for. The final printed sheet (which it suggests should be removed and handed to a ticket collector) remains in situ. Former owner name inked to the front endpaper alongside two small areas of faint tape residue marks. Three essays on England and English culture ('The Beauty of Southern England', 'Social and Sporting Season' and 'The Birthplace of English History'), each accompanied by a Ravilious engraving, prepared for the use of overseas tourists visiting during the Royal Jubilee of 1935. A very good copy of an uncommon item. [A light item, UK postage will be reduced].
