Zustand: Hervorragend. Zustand: Hervorragend | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | Combine a healthy dose of skepticism about "well-intentioned big government agencies," mix it with a teaspoon of sage taken from rural life experiences, then throw in a pinch or two of salt from real-world farm economics; now you have the recipe this book is cooking up.Farm stories can be fun again: The Last Conestoga, Finishing Wild Cattle, Moron Mice, Farmer Pitching an Idea in Washington D.C.! With the employ of lighthearted stories and musings, the author tries to shed light on serious ways we could improve the free market experience in rural America. The author attempts to preserve the middle-class farm and, in so doing, hold onto some of the good values archived in the heartland. If you don't want to stand on the sidelines and watch as "the system" asks the last independent American farmers and ranchers to "go now - and close the big doors on your way out of the barn," please read on and consider encouraging long overdue change.

Taschenbuch. Zustand: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Study of the phenomena of bacterial adhesion to surfaces has accelerated considerably over the past 10 to 15 years. During this period, microbiologists have become increasingly aware that attachment to a substratum influences considerably the activities and structures of microbial cells. Moreover, in many cases attached communities of cells have important effects on their substratum and the surrounding environment. Such phenomena are now known to be important in plant and animal hosts, water and soil ecosystems, and man-made structures and industrial processes. Much work on microbial adhesion in the early 1970s was descriptive. Those studies were important for detecting and describing the phenomena of bacterial adhesion to substrata in various environments; the findings have been presented in numerous recently published, excellent books and reviews. In some studies, attempts were made to elucidate some funda mental principles controlling adhesion processes in different environments containing a variety of microorganisms. Common threads have been observed occasionally in different studies. Taken as a whole, however, the information has revealed that many disparate factors are involved in adhesion processes. Whether a particular microorganism can adhere to a certain substratum depends on the properties of the microbial strain itself and on charac teristics of the substratum and of the environment.

Photograph. Zustand: Very Good +. Carte de visite. Albumen photograph [5.5 x 9.5 cm] mounted on a white card [6 x 10 cm] with a gold border on the front. Savage & Ottinger Fine Art Gallery backstamp (with beehive garden illustration). Faint pencil notation on the reverse. Two small stains also on the reverse (does not affect photograph, nor does it obscure the backstamp). The image is bright and clear, showing nice contrasts. A wide view looking down on the railroad tracks and bridge leading over the Weber River and into tunnel number three in Weber Canyon, UT. Several small building structures are visible to the right of the tunnel. A striking image from the renowned Mormon pioneer photographer, Charles Roscoe Savage, who is best known for his images of the linking of the transcontinental railroad at Promontory Point, Utah. Savage was a prolific photographer of the American West in general, and of Utah and the Mormon experience in particular. He thoroughly documented the early settlement and development of Salt Lake City, including the long and arduous construction of the Mormon Temple over several decades. He also photographed many Indigenous North Americans, and is credited for taking the first photographs of what would later become Zion National Park.
