Han var gesäll hos Christian Pfundt där han biträdde sin mästare i dennes arbeten. Han är nämnd som verksam i Skänninge från 1708 där han arbetade självständigt. Under sina studieår i Stockholm på 1690-talet snidade han bl. a. ornament till Hovstallets vagnar (bland annat en vagn som tillhörde änkedrottningen Hedvig Eleonora). Han bildade sitt efternamn efter födelsorten.

Stamp on title and rear: Le Mrs. [Marquis] de Courtanvaux (Le Tellier, Marquis de Courtanvaux, Francois-Cesar) (1718-1781). CHOICE COPY, IN A BEAUTIFUL CONTEMPORARY BINDING. Rare. First printing of an important book showing 72 standard costumes worn for 72 religious orders, mostly Italian orders, seventeenth century. There is a section devoted to the east and one plate to an order in India. Odoardo Fialetti, whose real name was Edouard Viallet, provided the remarkable engravings. The dedicatory epistle is addressed to Pierre de La Porte, first valet de chambre of Louis XIV. / Trichet du Fresne, described as erudite, he took his education at the College de Guyenne, Paris. While working for the brother of Louis XIII, Gaston d'Orleans (1608-60), he acquired works of art on buying excursions. He began his career as a bookseller before becoming corrector at the newly established Imprimerie du Roi in 1640. In 1651 he published Leonardo da Vinci's treatise on painting, Trattato della pittura, which had circulated in manuscript form. His Trattato contained an early biography of Leonardo and Alberti and contained a list of books at the end, forming the first annotated bibliography of art literature (Dictionary of Art Historians). After the death of Naude he was appointed librarian of Queen Christina of Sweden. His own library comprised about 10,000 volumes. Colbert acquired his manuscripts from his widow, Francoise Duvivier, for the Royal Library for 27,700 livres. The printed books were bought by Nicolas Fouquet, after whose disgrace and imprisonment they were confiscated and incorporated into the Royal Library in 1665. Pigott was a friend and adviser of Alexander Pope, who composed the inscription on his memorial tablet. 3pp., folio. Bifolium, on watermarked laid paper, folded into the customary packet, with 'Mr. Hunsdon's Case' written lengthwise on the blank rev…erse of the second leaf. Sixty-lines of neatly and closely written text. The first page is headed 'The Case of Mr. Thomas Hunsdon', and the first part of the document sets this out, in sections dated 23 June 1716, 14 February 1717, 31 October 1719, July 1723, and 1727. With reference to the will of Thomas Green, Hunsdon's father John and his wife Elizabeth, and the Duke of Montagu, the case concerns 'All that Messuage or Tenement then in ye poss[ess]ion of John Lennard his assigns or situate standing & being in Old Southton Buildings in the Parish of St. Andrew Holbourne in the County of Middx Abutting'. Following the setting out of the case, two questions are put to Pigott and he gives his succinct opinion on both, the document ending with his dated signature: 'Nath: Pigot | Middle Temple 9: Novr. 1731'. The two questions are, first: 'Q . . . . . . Whether the said Thos. Hunsdon has not a good Title to the said premisses for the Remr. of the said Term Granted by the said Duke as aforesaid And whether he can't assigne or mortgage the same as he thinks fitt or whether the words Assigne not being in the said Deed of appoinmt. anyways alters the Case'; second, '2dly: . . . . . In Case he mortgages the said premisses Granted by the said Lease wch. are in Middx and the Assignt. or mortgage Deed being Registered Whether there is any Occasion to register the P. Fine engraved map of the pre-Revolutionary French region of Guyenne and Gascony, surrounded by a border of yellow wash, with EXTREMELY FINE ORIGINAL HAND COLOR IN FULL, HEIGHTENED IN LIQUID GOLD, the individual regions shown in different bold watercolors of yellow, green, and pink, the title with…in a detailed cartouche composed of coats of arms, distance bars within a second cartouche, and decorated with a fine compass rose pointing north with a GOLD-ENHANCED FLEUR-DE-LIS (old central fold, slightly toned). An extremely fine engraved map of part of France, with original hand color in full and STRIKING LIQUID GOLD HIGHLIGHTS. The topographical features are rendered pictorially. The title appears within a brilliantly colored cartouche of the coats-of-arms of each of the provinces of the "gouvernement" of Guienne-et-Gascogne, many of which are colored with liquid gold. Additionally, important fortifications and castles are identified in red, often with a liquid gold dot. A student of the noted French cartographer, Giovanni Domenico Cassini, and the son of Claude De l'Isle, the geographer and historian to the king, Guillaume De l'Isle developed a strong basis for his cartographical skills. He produced his first terrestrial globe in 1699, and displayed a profound talent for capturing a high level of accuracy and geographical knowledge. In 1718, Louis XIV celebrated his much revered skill and accuracy by appointing him First Geographer to the French Monarchy, a title created specifically for him. In his many years in this position, De l'Isle became known for his correction of geographical errors common to his contemporaries, including dispelling the rumor of mythical lands in still-unexplored regions.
