The Italian translation of Carl Menger's 1871 work Grundsätze der Volkswirtschaftslehre (Principles of Economics.) The first Italian translation of the first edition of this work appeared in 1906 and 1907 in a supplement to 'Giornale degli Economisti.' This edition was translated from the second edition of the Grundsätze, edited by Carl Menger's son,by R. Broglio D'Ajano, and continued by N. Bonelli due to d'Ajano's death halfway through. First Thus.With a preface by Maffeo Pantaleoni.Principles of Economics was one of the first treatise to advance the theory of marginal utility: the idea that the marginal utility of goods, rather than labour inputs, is the source of their value; a theory which solved the diamond-water paradox, which sees mankind finding diamonds more valuable than water, although water is far more important. This rejected the cost-of-production theory of value developed by Adam Smith and David Ricardo.In the original publisher's wraps. Illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of Menger. Zustand: Molto buono (Very Good). In 8° (mm 220x148); pp. V, 104, (2). Cartone originale un po' macchiato. A parte un forellino tondo di tarlo che attraversa tutto il vol. toccando qualche lettera, bellissimo esemplare intornso stampato su carta greve cilestrina. A una prosa accademica sull'Italia e gli Italiani, corredata di molte amplie note, segue un carme a Napoleone intitolato "Elogio del Massimo". Il B., nobile maceratese, oltre che poeta fu uomo politico progressista e, come tale, ricoprì importanti cariche durante l'occupazione francese. Perseguitato durante la reazione del 1799 tornò alla vita politica nel 1808, pubblicando questa opera «che, propugnando il "Risorgimento della Nazione" dalle Alpi alla Sicilia, esalta i valori della civiltà  italiana; il patriottismo italiano avrebbe dovuto emulare ma mai imitare i Francesi» (D.B.I., s.v.). Al B., amico di famiglia, Giacomo Leopardi scrisse una lettera da Recanati in data 29/07/1819, in cui chiedeva di procurargli un passaporto per il Regno lombardo-veneto: «P.S. Il passaporto (s'io non mi sono bene espresso) dev'essere per me».…

"Le Nozze di Teti e di Pelèo" è una celebre traduzione in versi italiani del carme 64 di Catullo, realizzata dal conte Saverio Broglio d'Ajano e pubblicata a Parma nel 1784 dalla prestigiosa Stamperia Reale. L'opera rappresenta uno dei lavori più raffinati della letteratura neoclassica italiana e si inserisce nella prestigiosa tradizione delle edizioni bodoniane (cfr. Brooks 273).
