Very good. - Jan Kubelik's autograph boldly penned & dated "20-XI-1908" on a 3-1/4 inch high by 4-1/2 inch wide card mounted and framed below an original 5-1/2 inch high by 3-1/2 inch wide original photograph by the Berlin studio of Otto Becker & Maass. The sienna-toned portrait depicts the great violinist in three-quarter profile from the chest up. Attired in a dark three piece suit and tie over a white shirt, Kubelik rests his head on his left hand as he pensively looks towards the camera. The photograph and autographed card are attractively matted & framed in a 14-5/8 inch high by 9-1/2 inch wide gilt frame. Near fine. The great Czech violinist and composer Jan Kubelik (1880-1940) is mentioned in Carl Sandburg's "Chicago Poems" (published in 1916) and in Robert Ludlum's "The Janson Directive" (published in 2002). He was the father of the conductor Rafael Kubelik.

Fair, on lightly-aged paper. The publicity photograph of Mrs Patrick Campbell, : Roughly 10.5 x 13 cm. Printed in green. Depicts her leaning forwards, with neck and forearms exposed. Across the foot she has written: 'Beatrice Stella Cornwallis West. | (Mrs. Patrick Campbell)'. Laid down on a leaf from an autograph album, on the reverse of which is Kubelik's signature: 'jan Kubelik | 25.XI.1921'.

Geburtstag, rückseitig eigenhändig bezeichnet und signiert, Euro 85,-) (Weis was a polish Jew, he studied in Prague; amongst his teachers was Fibich. He was for some years a violinist at the Prague National Theatre, and later conducted opera in Prague and Brno. Between 1928 and 1941, he published a fifteen volume collection of folk songs. Among his many compositions are eleven operas, (three in Czech, and eight, of which six are operettas, in German), five of which premiered at the Prague State Opera. Czech nationalists however criticised him for setting German texts.).
