Quintus Curtius Rufus was a 1st century Roman historian and scholar, whose Histories of Alexander Great gained popularity in the Middle Ages. The first printed edition was published in Venice between 1470-71 by Vindelinus Spirensis. Samuel Pitiscus (1637-1727) was a historian and classical scholar from the Netherlands.…

Auch Teile der Bücher 5, 6 und 10 fehlen. Das Werk ist stark auf die Person Alexanders ausgerichtet, ist dramatisierend und ähnelt teilweise einem Roman. Jedenfalls ist das Werk stark rhetorisierend. Zahlreiche Reden, die ein Problem von mehreren Seiten beleuchten sollen, werden den Protagonisten von Curtius in den Mund gelegt. Als Quelle ist es dennoch von einem gewissen Wert: in der neueren Forschung wird ihm sogar wieder mehr Gewicht zugemessen, wenngleich er den "objektiven" Alexanderhistoriker Arrian nicht ersetzen kann.…
