"Most of the illustrations were done by Sydenham Edwards; each plate was hand-coloured and was accompanied by captions describing the plant's name, synonyms, provenance, time of flowering, and notes on cultivation. Curtis's Flower Garden Displayed contains colour reproductions of 120 plates selected by the authors from the first twenty-five bound volumes of the Botanical Magazine published between 1787 and 1807. They have been rearranged in the chronological order in which, so far as is known, they were introduced into cultivation, but Curtis's original captions have been rewritten to incorporate the most recent available information on the plants.
