Vivendo a Londra negli anni '20 e all'inizio degli anni '30, durante l'era dei ?Bright Young Things?, Moffat ha realizzato eleganti ritratti fotografici di personaggi di spicco dell'alta società, del teatro e delle arti, tra cui Cecil Beaton, i Sitwell, Nancy Cunard, Lady Diana Cooper, Tallulah Bankhead e Daphne Du Maurier.Nel 2003 e nel 2007, la figlia di Moffat, Penelope Smail, ha generosamente donato il suo vasto archivio al Victoria and Albert Museum.
