Stapled booklet in color pictorial wrappers with a vignette on the front wrapper of a dogsled and a photo of Tanku Glacier on Taku Inlet and a vignette on the rear wrapper of two totem poles and…a sunburst framing a photo of Lynn Canal from Mount Dewey, Alaska. A tiny rubbed spot on the front wrapper, wrappers ever so lightly soiled, corners square and flat, some rust on the staples, else very good to near fine with no internal markings. In extraordinarily good condition for a piece so old and so fragile. Date determined from the contents: there is a photo of the Pacific Coast Steamship Company's Steamer Spokane, which was built in 1902 and bought by another company in 1916. There is also a photo that shows the Tanana Valley Railroad, which operated in Alaska between 1905 and 1917. In one of the photos the dress of the women appears to be 1910 to 1915. A rare piece of Alaska ephemera.

So, although the artwork plates were designed and produced between the 1930s and 1940s, folders were on sale in park gift shop into t…he 1950s. a long, continuous strip of linen-textured paper is accordion-folded into 9 double-sided panels, revealing a total of 18 full-color scenic views when fully opened. Bottom of the cover page—shows Bridal veil Fall, Vernal Fall, Yosemite Falls, and Nevada Falls. The process of colorized photos begins with black-and-white photographs taken by a camera. Artists added colors by hand, using diluted oils, watercolors, or dyes. Publishers printed these hand-painted images using early lithography techniques. The colors look stylized, dreamy, or slightly unnatural compared to modern photos. This process was popular from the 1900s through the 1950s before color film became cheap. 4" x 6" accordion foldout of nine double-side panels 18 images. printing by Curt Teich & Co. (illustrator).

Measures 6 7/8" x 10 3/4" This charming mid-century map of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket was printed on a giant postcard, with a lovely pictorial border featuring 15 color photographs of major points of interest on the islands. Shows major roads, airports, ferry routes from New Bedford, and towns…. Dated according to production number on verso (D8685). In very good condition, with wear to top edge of paper and very minor loss. Curt Teich (1877-1974) was American publisher of German descent, active in the early 20th century. A pioneer of the offset printing process, he is best known for his colorful travel postcards with bold "Greetings From" lettering. This map is scarce.
