297 pages. Hardcover with a dust jacket. #251 OF A LIMITED FIRST EDITION OF ONLY 1,000 COPIES SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR. Throughout his entire life, the common demonimator has always been untamed Africa. Gordon Cundill is almost one of those unique individuals who participated in virtually every facet of the big game hunting industry. The son of a big game hunter, he grew up in South Africa and actively pursued game from a young age. After hunting, as a teenager, just about every game animal that a youngster could talk his father into letting him shoot, he never thought about a career in any field other than big game hunting. It is therefore no surprise that Gordon has held professional hunting licenses in several African countries (Botswana, Tanzania, South Africa and most recently Mozambique). He has been a partner, general manager, and PH in various hunting companies working with, among others, well known colorful American safari company owners Clayton Williams in Hunters Africa and Tommy Friedkin in Safari South. Just as the variety of Africa is sufficient to encompass and enrich every big game hunter's interest, so the variety of this book will surely be recognized as sufficient to warrant spending time traveling the game fields with the author. A Hunter's Africa looks at many facets of the big game hunting field and industry. There is a vivid picture of the African Safari Experience of yesterday, today and tomorrow, as well as encountes with the African Giants (elephants) and a look into the Lion's Heart (Gordon has had more thn his share of clients who were preoccupied with lions and lion hunting). Hunting invites an attack. After all, the hunter is the aggressor. Naturally the book asks, and tries to answer, the question, "Is a Buffalo Dangerous?" There are tales of hunting the elusive Spiral-Horned Antelope, as well as other game animals. Perhaps one way to let you know what is beween the covers of this book is to say that the author has woven a fine fabric of Animals, and People and Weapons. Certainly he is qualified to do so. Coupled with a few poignant philosophical observations on big game hunting, the industry and its personalities, this book will be must reading. Excellent. A beautiful Very Fine As New copy at a reasonable price.

This is "an exciting, specialist book on lion hunting for the lion hunter by an expert lion hunter. It contains many thought provoking and valuable lessons, for example, on calibres, cartridges and why not to use an over-and-under double rifle. These are not boring cat hunts spent watching smelly bits of meat become even smellier but are, for the most part, all action, walk and stalk hunts - [they are] graphic, here, now and in your face stories where you can almost feel the rumbles of the lion's roar in your chest and smell his paint-stripping breath at the end of a close encounter. A number of them have made a previous appearance in one or other of [the author's] earlier books but each one has been re-written with a particular, instructional aim in mind. You will enjoy every adventurous page of these exciting tales with some leopard and elephant hunting thrown in for good measure, when it complements the lion hunting action." This is a copy of the collector's edition which as limited to only 350 copies. .
