Front hinge neatly strengthened, lightly sunned spine with loss at the ends and a split on the rear shoulder, c…orners a bit worn, very good and sound. Inscribed by the author on the front fly: "J.R. Arnolds, Esq., With the respectful regards of the Author / [William-----?], [Sep?] 1869." An important and early history of the National Academy of Design and New-York Drawing Association by an artist and Academy co-founder. Uncommon, especially a presentation copy in the author's monogrammed binding.
