This popular work was first published in London in 1766 and was generally referred to as "Boote's Suit at Law." It went through several editions, the last one in 1839. "The history of procedure [in the eighteenth century] is represented by [this book]. It is an able summary of which I have made use of in a preceding volume of this History. One of the objects of the book was to lay a foundation for some very necessary reforms in this branch of the law, the need for which was clearly explained by the author" (Holdsworth).
