Toning and spotting t…hroughout with heavier spotting to preliminaries and endpapers, checkmarks and crosses in pencil to publisher's advertisements as well as pencilled writing to rear flyleaf, minor chipping to jacket, 1.5cm tear to crown of spine, small puncture to front jacket joint. Very good. 'The Wisdom of the East' Series started in 1904, and grew out of a desire for a greater understanding of the history and philosophy of the East. In his preface, Weir states that the aim of his book is a produce a 'sound opinion' on 'what manner of man the poet Omar Khayyam was'. T. H. Weir was a was a lecturer in Arabic at Glasgow University.

This print appeared as plate XXIV (24) in the Enlarged Edition of "An investigation of the principles of Athenian architecture: or, the results of a survey conducted chiefly with reference to the optical refinements exhibited in the construction of the ancient buildings at Athens" by Penrose, published in 1888. This work is historically important in classical archaeology and architectural history because Penrose combined surveying with attention to the visual corrections used in ancient Athenian monuments.
