Antarctic Map Folio Series. Scarce. Widely regarded as a landmark publication in Antarctic geological science, Folio 12 represents the first coordin…ated, continent-wide synthesis of Antarctica's geology. Prior to its publication, geological understanding of the continent was highly fragmentary, derived largely from isolated coastal expeditions and a small number of interior traverses. Drawing on the collective work of 25 geologists from eight countries, this folio brought together all available geological mapping into a single authoritative reference, shaping decades of subsequent research and establishing a foundation for modern Antarctic geology. The folio comprises 23 plates: 17 regional geological maps, primarily at a scale of 1:1,000,000; five plates depicting the continent as a whole; and a final plate illustrating Gondwanaland, situating Antarctic geology within its broader tectonic context.Edited by Professor Campbell S. Craddock (1923-2010), a leading American geologist and pioneer of Antarctic geological and plate-tectonic studies, the work reflects his influential career at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Craddock's mapping and stratigraphic research provided key evidence for the former connection of West Antarctica to other Gondwanan continents, particularly South America and Africa, and remains central to our understanding of Antarctic tectonic history.
