In den WarenkorbLarge oblong hardback, elephant folio, approx 22 x 15.5 inches. Quarter bound full calf leather binding, with dark leather to spine and corners with gilt line edging, and lighter leather to boards. Gilt lettering to spine, and gilt vignette on leather to front. Marbled endpapers. In maroon hard slipcase. In very good condition with very good slipcase. A couple of minor marks to cover; small minor pen mark on front board, some fading and marks to spine with minor scratch near bottom end. A couple of bumps and some minor rubbing to slipcase. With silk pull-ribbon. Else an excellent clean and tight copy. 34 original B&W engraved etchings, each numbered, dated, annotated and signed by the artist. All tissue guarded. The introduction gives the explanation for the choice of title: the head of the old oligarchy (The Doge), and the forests and lagoon (The Dolphin) that captured the interests of the aerial cartographers. The first etching is a waterside view of the Doge's palace. All 34 etchings have the original tissue guards, along with their individual explanations. The artist was trained as an architect; his wife was the intaglio printer in charge of the etching production. The paper is heavy, acid-free stock. There is a full list of specifications, some bibliographical references, and a glossary. In addition to the palace, there are numerous views of various buildings, waterways, gondolas, etc. . Signed by Author. Limited/Numbered. Full-Leather.
