The Foremans: Plastics Manufacturers of Hamilton, 1945-1995, by David Coy, tells the story of the businesses started by Morton (Mortie) Foreman and his son Bill which put Hamilton firmly on the map in the world of plastics manufacturing. The Foreman family companies, Plastic Products and Trigon, spanned two generations and went from making plastic dolls in a converted garage off Hamilton's main thoroughfare, Victoria Street, to manufacturing some of the world's most advanced packaging in state-of-the-art plants in three countries. Dr Coy, a former accounting academic and an Honorary Fellow of the University of Waikato, took on the job of writing the history after Yvonne Foreman, Mortie's widow, approached the University for help. "When I read through the archive material Yvonne provided, I thought the story merited a wider audience than just the family and University researchers, so we had the idea of publishing it as a book," Dr Coy says. With the support of former Trigon Technical Director Russell Cassey and approval from Bill Foreman, the project took shape. The 120-page book is illustrated with more than 100 archive photographs and skilfully combines the business stories of two generations of the Foreman family with the history and development of Plastic Products and Trigon.
