In den Warenkorbhardcover. Zustand: Very Good. First Edition. The House of Longman With a Record of Their Bicentenary Celebrations 1724-1924, Harold Cox and John E. Chandler â" First Edition Publication: London, Longmans, Green and Co., 1925 Formatting: 8vo, pp. [viii], 95. Condition Report: Very Good. The binding remains remarkably tight and s…tructurally sound, with the publisher's quarter brown cloth and grey paper-covered boards presenting well overall. There is some minor age-related smudging and faint surface soiling to the boards, notably to the rear, alongside trivial rubbing to the extremities and slight bumping to the corners. The original printed paper spine label remains entirely intact, though it exhibits the expected uniform browning. Internally, the book is crisp and largely clean; the hinges are uncracked and the text block is pleasingly firm. Some light, scattered foxing and minor offsetting are confined primarily to the preliminary leaves and endpapers, while the principal text and illustrations remain bright, unblemished, and highly legible. A handsome, well-preserved copy. Catalogue Note: First Edition, printed exclusively for private circulation to commemorate the firm's bicentenary. This is the primary hardcover issue, bound in the original quarter cloth over grey paper boards. The text is complemented by a frontispiece and internal plate illustrations. As a privately circulated celebratory volume intended primarily for staff, associates, and friends of the firm, it was not initially issued for general commercial sale. Consequently, while not strictly rare, the edition remains an uncommon find on the open market, particularly in well-preserved original condition without institutional stamping or major wear. The House of Longman offers a fascinating, privately printed glimpse into the rich two-hundred-year history of one of Britainâs most enduring publishing dynasties. Authored to mark the firm's bicentenary, this commemorative volume chronicles the milestones, distinguished authors, and changing tides of the literary marketplace navigated since 1724. Including detailed records of the celebratory luncheon and dinner at Stationers' Hall, it serves as both an essential reference for historians of the British book trade and a charming artefact of corporate pride from the golden age of publishing.
