In den WarenkorbHardback. Zustand: Very Good. Max Cowper (illustrator). First Edition. 1902. First edition. xii, [i], 153pp. a 2 page review of another of the author's works, 15 illustrations within the text and a ground plan. Lindores Abbey was a Tironensian abbey on the outskirts of Newburgh in Fife, Scotland. Now a much reduced and overgrown ruin, it lies on the southern banks of the River Tay, about 1 mile north of the village of Lindores. The abbey was sacked by a mob from Dundee in 1543, and again by John Knox and his supporters in 1559. In the following years the Abbey buildings were quarried as a source of building stone for Newburgh. The author's original aim had been to produce a handy guide to the ruins with a general reference to Scottish history, but circumstances led to him providing a much expanded work with greater reference to the Abbey's historical associations. There is a preface by A.H. Millar. The book is bound in the original green cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and gold titling and designs with a black emblem on the front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear and light soiling to the front board and heavier shelf wear with a large and noticeable patch of loss of colour and staining from water damage on the rear board. The spine ends are bumped with a little damage to the cloth. The contents are tight and clean with foxing to the endpapers and browning to the free endpapers. A name has been written on the front fixed endpaper.
