First edition, variant issue with correct spelling of Malcolm Cowley's name on the spine; also issued with incorrect spelling of Cowley's name as "Malcom" on spine, priority undetermined. Introduction by Malcolm Cowley. Spine lettering is worn away, else very good lacking the dust jacket. Inscribed, humorously by Cowley on the front flyleaf in the year of publication to author Hamilton Basso and his wife Etolia: "For Ham + Toto, April, 1951, Malcolm- Scott Fitz- Cowley". An early inscription, the book was published on March 16, 1951. One page of text has a neat ink note in margin, and blank rear flyleaf has a neat pencil note presumably in hand of Basso or his wife. When Hamilton Basso died, in 1964, Malcolm Cowley delivered the eulogy at Emanuel Episcopal Church in Weston, Connecticut.…

Unbound. Zustand: Good. Magazine. One folio sheet folded to make four pages. Measuring approximately 10" x 14" closed. Two old folds, paper irregularly toned with small chips and splits at the edges, good only. The front page prominently features Malcolm Cowley's "Poem in a Time of Crisis," "Printed here for the first time, Written exclusively for this issue." (The poem was collected in Cowley's 1968 *Blue Juniata: A Life. Collected and New Poems* with slightly modified title and text, dated 1951. It also appears that it was published in *The Nation* in 1951.) Cowley is listed among 11 Editors-in-Chief, the others (notably all women) being Blossom Appel, Chaille Cage, Mary Ellen Harper, Mary Ann Harrell, Ann Harwich, Frances Hazlehurst, Nina Kane, Katherine Pargellis, Ioni Ross, and Julia Viedt. The articles, all attributed to "The Editor" have titles such as "The Death of Art," "The Undoing of the Doing," "Awake!", "When We Were Very Jung," "A Sop's Fable," and "A Plea For Painting." Presumably a rare survival; we have not been able to find any information about the publication.…
