Paperback. Zustand: New. Language: English. About The Book: "Bijapur: The Former Capital of the Adil Shahi Kings" serves as a comprehensive guidebook detailing the remnants of Bijapur, offering a historical panorama. It explores prominent landmarks like Adil Shah's Rauza, various tombs including those of Malik Sandal and Yaqut Dabir, mosques such as the Zainuddin Masjid, and significant structures like the Bara Kaman. The preface emphasizes citations from historical references and Persian inscriptions. To ensure clarity and minimize repetition, the guide refrains from clustering similar structures and includes a useful itinerary for efficient exploration. Moreover, it features a fare scale for public transportation and incorporates two maps for enhanced convenience. About The Author: Henry Cousens (18541933) was a Scottish archaeologist and photographer renowned for his pioneering work in British India's monuments, notably Western India and Southern Pakistan. Joining the Archaeological Survey of India in 1881, he became Superintendent in 1891. Cousens meticulously surveyed and documented Buddhist, Hindu, Jain, and Islamic monuments, producing comprehensive reports and photographs. Paperback. Zustand: New. Language: ENGLISH. About the Book:-The author reveals that these Lists of Antiquarian Remains in the Central Provinces and Berar are compiled from old manuscript and printed lists, very imperfect. General Sir Alexander Cunningham's Reports, the Central Provinces and Berar Gazetteers, a short list in Dr. Burgess' Lists of Remains in the Bombay Presidency, additions and corrections received from District Officers, and information gleaned personally during two tours which he made in 1892-93-94 through portions of these districts. This does not profess to be a perfect and exhaustive list and must be accepted as provisional, for there are still very large tracts in the Central Provinces which have not yet been examined by the antiquarian, and hardly by anyone else. Owing, too, to the want of an elementary acquaintance with antiquarian remains, or even a passing interest in them, on the part of many District Officers, much of the information obtained from them is very defective, and many entries of uninteresting and modern objects have been included in their returns which should not have found a place at all. To avoid the possibility of removing genuine entries in weeding these out, in the absence of fuller information, he has allowed many doubtful ones to stand as they are. Since the final lists have been printed it was found necessary to refer again to those officers for the correct location of certain places for the maps, and this has in some instances brought forth new spelling and correction of names which were overlooked in the first instance, but have come too late to be used in the text.
