Overall size ca. 270 x 180 mm. Each print has 3 images; one ca. 95 x 110 mm, and two ca. 85 x 55 mm each, on a single impression. Good impressions with ample margins all-round. In overall good condition (margins soiled & foxed to various degrees, hardly affecting image. One print very foxed). - - FIRST EDITION. Bullura and Couché, along others, are signed on the metal, succeeded by "del." implying this is the artist from whose drawing the engraving or etching was made. Various craftsmen signatures, succeeded by "sculp." meaning "carved", implying he who has drawn on the metal. The prints, involve both etching and engraving. Each depicts a single costume study of the period, or a general view, and two, very fine portraits of leading (military) personage. An impressive visual representation of the human landscape of the Premier Empire (1805-1815). Preserved in acid-free, pH-balanced Renaissance archival paper. Scarce. Clamshell.

Helle Stockflecken, Druck auf starkem Papier, gut erhalten / Rousseurs, imprimé sur papier fort, bon état. * Außerordentlich dekoratives Widmungsblatt für die Kupferstichsammlung nach Gemälden im Palais Royal, der Residenz des Duc d'Orleans. Die Sammlung umfasste mehr als 500 Gemälde, die entsprechenden Kupferstiche wurden in drei Bänden publiziert. * La feuille très décorative de dédicace pour la collection des gravures d'après les tableaux au Palais Royal. En 1783-1784, le duc d'Orléans (1725-1785), avait choisi Jacques Couché comme graveur attitré de son cabinet, lui passe commande de l'exécution en gravures de tous ses tableaux présents dans sa collection au Palais-Royal et dans ses autres châteaux. Il s'agit d'une énorme entreprise, la collection de peintures comprend pas moins de 500 uvres. Dans un premier temps, il confie la composition des dessins à, entre autres, Antoine Borel et Jean-Baptiste Wicar. Il prend comme associé Jacques Bouillard dans la constitution d'une structure éditoriale d'impression d'estampes. Les premières sortent des presses en 1786 sous la forme d'un album intitulé Galerie du Palais-Royal, lancé par souscription. Le nouveau duc d'Orléans décide alors de mettre en vente sa collection de tableaux. Le travail de gravure occupe Couché pendant près de vingt ans, interrompu par les événements révolutionnaires. Les dernières estampes sortent des presses en 1808, totalisant trois tomes. Couché recruta de nombreux collaborateurs, parmi lesquels Jean Dambrun, François Dequevauviller, Louis Garreau, Heinrich et Carl Guttenberg, Robert de Launay, Massard, Ernest Morace, Patas, Antoine-Louis Romanet, Trière3,5.
