A fresh copy, in an attractive contemporary binding, of this pocket-size pirated edition of Justinian's legal milestone - printed in red and black. It reprises an edition of the same text printed by Daniel Elzevier in Amsterdam in the same year (Willems 1519), including the design of the engraved title, with a revised imprint.

Amsterdam (Amstelodami), Apud Danielem Elzevirium, 1664, 12mo., full leather binding with ribbed spine, gilded title and decorative floral gold tooling on spine, some blind tooling on the front and back cover (straight lines), with original headbands, red sprinkled edges, [8]+644 pp., the leather covering the spine has come loose, but otherwise in fairly good condition with, apart from some waterstains, beautiful and clear printwork. An engraved titlepage depicting Justitia precedes the regular titlepage, with printer's mark on the regular titlepage (ne extra oleas, "nothing but the olive") depicting Minerva and her owl next to an olive tree. With two tailpieces and some decorative initials. l Johannes Arnoldi Corvinus born Joannes Arnoldsz. Ravens (1582-1650) was a Dutch Remonstrant minister and jurist. This is the fifth edition of the Enchiridium, a book of law that was first published in 1640.

Fourth and last Elzevir-edition of Corvinus? canonical law book that explains the principles of canon law in an aphoristic and succinct manner. This work is typical of the era which often used aphorisms to condense complex legal or theological principles for clarity and easier application. Willems 1468.
