Contains two charts: (1) Profile of South Pass from East Point Across the bar showing Progress of Scour effected by the Jetties, 24 x 9 inches, (2) Four cross sections at various heights. 20 x 9 inches. Elmer Lawrence Corthell (1840-1916), a civil engineer, was active as a consulting engineer on railway, bridge, hydroelectric, irrigation, jetty, levee, and other projects in the U.S., Latin America and Europe. He had an office in New York City from the 1870s until 1916. He was the author of A History of the Jetties at the Mouth of the Mississippi River. Scarce: OCLC shows only one copy though without naming the institution. OCLC: 36241986 Removed from a larger volume, spine shellacked, else a very good copy, author's compliments tipped into title, contents and diagrams lightly soiled, faint fold.

Cloth. Zustand: Very Good. The 1880 1st edition. Cleanly ex-libris, with the small stamps and the tag of the Franklin Institute Library of Philadelphia discreetly applied at the plates and a number of the pages, and at the front pastedown. Still though, solid, presentable and VG in its dark-green cloth, with just a bit of rubbing to the panels. Thick octavo, 24 full-page plates and 10 folding maps complementing E.L. Corthell's text.
