Si distinse in particolare per gli studi sul colera, ottenendo la direzione dell'ospedale dei colerosiÂdi Venezia. Nel 1838 vinse la cattedra di anatomia all'Universita' di Padova, pronunciando questo discorso di prolusione prima dell'insediamento. Cortese lavoro' a Padova per la creazione di un gabinetto anatomico dedicandosi in particolare allo studio anatomico e fisiologico del sistema nervoso. ITA.…

In 4° (19,5x14 cm); (20), 215, (1) pp. Legatura moderna in cartoncino molle. Bella e grande xilografia al frontespizio con motto "Virgina Borgese Lante, Sicut lillum inter spinas, Folino in Umbria". Numerose belle e dal disegno non comune, testatine, finalini ed iniziali xilografici. Dedica a Virgina Borghese Lante cognata di Papa Palo V che è raffigurato in un piccolo ritratto sotto la dedicatoria. Prima non comune edizione stampata a Venezia. L'opera è un importante studio legato alla spiritualità mariana ed allo studio dell'Ave Maria e raccoglie le lezioni (sette) che il noto francesacano originario di Montefalco in provincia di Perugia Francesco Cortese tenne a Foligno nel 1606 e Padova el 1608. Le lezioni sono un'approfondita analisi dell'Ave Maria. Uno strappetto senza perdita di carta abilmente restaurato a pagina 213, un leggerissimo alone al margine basso delle prime carte, praticamente invisibile e per il resto esemplare in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione.…

Er vervollständigte seine Studien in Wien, promovierte 1823 in Padua und wurde Assistent an der chir. Klinik von Ruggieri zu Vendig, 1828 Chirurgo provinciale zu Vendig und 1838 zum Professor der Anatomie in Padua ernannt, wo er mit grossem Erfolg lehrte. 1844 wurde ihm die chirurgische Klinik übertragen. In Folge der liberalen Bewegung von 1848 war er genöthigt, nach Piermont zu flüchten, machte den Feldzug von 1849 mit und gelangte in der piemontesischen, später italienischen Armee bis in die höchsten Stellen des Sanitätsdienstes, indem er 1850 zum Divisions-Chefarzt 1.Cl. ernannt wurde, 1859 als Vice-Chefarut den Feldzug mitmachte, 1873, nach dem Abgange Comisetti's, Prädsident des Consiglio superiore militare di santia wurde und 1880 als Sanitäts-General-Major in den Ruehstand trat. Nachdem er sich 1871 in Deutschland mit den dortigen Sanitätseinrichtungen vertraut gemacht hatte, fürhte er ähnliche Einrichtungen beim italienischen Sanitätsdienste ein und hat sich durch vorttreffliche Organisation die hervorragendsten Verdienste erworben. -cf.
