A complete run of 17 Parts bound in 9 Volumes. Published by David Douglas, and William Green & Sons, Edinburgh 1888-1903 (although Volume 1 content begins from 1886). A very good set of thi…s impressive journal which was issued quarterly, then collated and bound in these beautiful volumes. A scarce publication with few sets coming to the market. There are very few copies listed on Worldcat. A very good set, approaching near fine, bound in half leather with marbled boards. Navy blue leather, though sunned to brown on the spines (Volume 1 faded more than the others, with some sun fading on the rear cover too). Lovely binding with raised bands and marbled endpapers. Small 4mm hole next to Volume number on the last volume in the set. Text is nice and clean throughout. Provenance: Bookplate of David Murray (1842-1928), and his signature to free endpapers - a Scottish lawyer and book collector, and a prominent benefactor to Glasgow University, who presented a huge personal library of books and manuscripts to the University in 1927. In den WarenkorbCloth. Zustand: Very Good Indeed. First edition. Three first edition volumes of economic publications from the Scottish Historical society, covering a selection of years between 1587 and 1739. Three attractive first editions, uniformly bound. Present here are three publications from the Scottish Historical Society, the first bei…ng vol. 16, 'The Account Book of Sir John Foulis of Ravelston 1671-1707', published in 1894. The preface to this work explains that in containing the accounts of one individual, rather than of a public body, 'it is specially valuable as throwing light on social life in Scotland two hundred years ago', and is arguably a more interesting source in looking at a person than their own diary. The second work here is vol. 28, 'The Compt Buik of David Wedderburne Merchant of Dundee 1587-1630', published in 1898. Also present within this volume are the Shipping Lists of Dundee, 1580-1618. This work is credited as 'the first book issued which contains authentic details of the imports, exports, and home trade at a busy Scottish seaport' during this period. The final work is vol. 55, 'Ochtertyre House Booke of Accomps 1737-1739', 1907, and contains the account books of the Baronial Murray family during this period. These are ex-library editions, each bearing an Ealing Public Libraries bookplate to the front pastedown. In the publisher's original cloth binding. Boards clean and bright, with bumping to spine heads and tails. Library notations to back strip tails. Light rubbing to front joint of volume I. Internally, firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Very Good Indeed. None (illustrator). book.
