This leading man reached the height of his popularity in the 1940s, in films such as "A Song to Remember" (for which he was nominated for best actor Oscar) and "The Bandit of Sherwood Forest"; later he produced and directed films, some of which he also acted in ("The Naked Prey"). Large bold signature in black fountain pen, 3 3/4" X 1½", n.p., n.y. [1962]. Near fine. Wilde's pen skipped initially with the capital "C," which he then wrote over boldly. A super example, particularly choice as it was penned for a greeting card company (California Artists) for reproduction on a planned Christmas card featuring one of Wilde's oil paintings. Accompanied by a circa 1962 5" X 7" black-and-white head-and-shoulders portrait of a broody young Wilde.

Writing to a company that produced Christmas cards featuring original art work by film stars, a perturbed Wilde discusses in detail how cards featuring his paintings might be shipped to him in England in time to be mailed out for Christmas. Interesting and odd. Also notes: "All has gone very well with our film, and I think we will have something really quite terrific.".

Shot on location throughout Los Angeles, and notably in the Bradbury Building on Broadway, now an architectural landmark originally built in 1893 by Los Angeles mining millionaire Lewis L. Bradbury and designed by George Wyman. In a custom, museum-quality frame, archivally mounted, with UV glass. 7 x 9 inches, borderless, with a studio stamp and a mimeograph snipe on the verso. Unpublished. Reproduction of typescript in script-bureau covers with sticker of the Rialto Service Bureau on front cover. Covers separated from contents, good. Probably the only existing copy of this script, whose action is set around the 1939 World's Fair. Cornel Wilde was born Kornel Lajos Weisz in 1912 to Jewish parents in the then Kingdom of Hungary. He was a CCNY graduate and an Olympics-level fencer. By the late 1930s Wilde has started a theatrical career. We know of no realization of the script during the World's Fair, or otherwise on stage or in film. The gossip columnist Hedda Hopper in her October 12, 1941 column referred to "Cornel Wilde (One Fair Day)" as if it were a well known work connected to him; by then, the script would have passed out of topicality.
