In den WarenkorbCloth. Zustand: Good. E H Corbould (illustrator). A scarce, first edition of this penny dreadful by George William Macarthur Reynolds. With illustrations by E H Corbould.Written by the noted Victorian author George William MacArthur Reynolds. Reynolds worked hard to expose Victorian poverty and criminality in his writings, some of which predate Mayhew's popular accounts. Not all of his works appeared as Penny Dreadfuls, he is known as an author of this genre due to the serialisation of the majority of his novels. This work was serialised in Reynolds's Misselancy between 11 July 1857 and 1 May 1858.A scarce work, held institutionally at University of Oxford and University of Essex.A smart copy of this uncommon work by an important Victorian author. In a full cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Small loss to the cloth at the front joint. A few marks to the rear board. Rear hinge has failed, with the backstrip lifting. Front hinge is strained but firm. Binding is strained in places. Pages are bright with just the occasional light spots to pages. Good. book.
E.H. Corbould; John Gilbert (illustrator). 8vo. Full green cloth boards. Beveled edges. Brown endpapers. All edges gilt. 528 pp. Illustrated with 2 mounted albumen prints and 8 engraved plates. Very good example; upper hinge split, interior lightly toned, occasional spotting, else clean.
