Comincia così l'avventura di un pioniere italiano nella terra dei pionieri. In questo racconto/avventura l'autore segue i ricordi che a mano a mano svelano al lettore il segreto della sua storia d'amore con il mare. Nella conclusione del suo libro scrive infatti: "Grazie mare per avermi insegnato a danzare con la vita come con le onde luccicanti del Pacifico fino a che la danza diventa la cosa più importante e si beve il tempo a goccia a goccia". Pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1995 questo libro è una piccola perla nel mare magnum dei racconti di viaggio di navigatori italiani. Un uomo ormai maturo su un canotto di salvataggio, attrezzato a vela, si mette in mare a caccia delle sue paure. La navigazione a bordo di Emteess, questo il nome della bizzarra imbarcazione, dà il là a una sorta di autobiografia nautica che attraverso tre diari di bordo, che si intrecciano nell'arco di una vita su quattro continenti, racconta di una passione infinita, quella per il mare. C'è il diario del lungo viaggio intorno al mondo; quello delle navigazioni a bordo di Phobos, la sua prima barca a vela; l'incontro con Bernard Moitessier al quale lo legherà una di quelle amicizie fatte di tutto e di niente tipiche della gente di mare.
