In den WarenkorbPaperback. Zustand: Good. None (illustrator). First edition. The first edition of Constance Gardner's vanishingly scarce all-female retelling of Jerome K. Jerome's 'Three Men in a Boat'. The first edition of this very scarce work.Published in 1889, this was one of the first of a number of reinterpretations of Jerome K. Jerome's work that were produced in light of its success. In her work, MacEwen'sbook relates the journey of three young university women who set out to emulate the river trip inThree Men in a Boat in an effort to raise the spirits of one of them, who is about to be expelled from university. They journey along the Thames, accompanied by a cat named Tintoretto. Her work was somewhat ahead of its time, as women rowing was unusual in the late nineteenth century, and at one point in the story the women sing a song about female equality.Jisc records only four institutionally held copies. With nine pages of advertisements, including to the rear wrap and to the verso of the title page and half title.A very scarce, humorous work. In the publisher's original paper wraps. Front wrap detached but present. Small closed tears to back strip. Rear wrap lightly age toned. Internally, first two gatherings working loose, otherwise firmly bound. Pages clean and bright. Good. book.
