Trade paperback. Zustand: Very good. Robbie Conal (Cover art) (illustrator). Presumed First Edition, First printing. [6], iii, [1], 359, [31--Notes and index]. Inscribed on the half title page by the author, Robert Parry. The inscription reads: To Jane--one of my heroes, Bob Parry Oct. 30, 2004. Includes Introduction, as well as chapters on The Wedding; Front Row; Surreptitious Entry; Containing the Secrets; First Interregnum; The First Restoration; The Pieces Arrayed; The Hostage Gambit; Hostage End Game; 'Debunked?'; Where Was George?; The Russian Report; Analyst Obstacles; The Magic Words; War at Home; Moon Rising; Untouchables; Ties That Bind; Moon's Generation Next; Dynastic Succession; Electoral Coup; September 11; To War; and Conclusion: Broken Toys. Robert Parry (June 24, 1949 - January 27, 2018) was an American investigative journalist. He was best known for his role in covering the Iran-Contra affair for the Associated Press (AP) and Newsweek, including breaking the Psychological Operations in Guerrilla Warfare (CIA manual provided to the Nicaraguan contras) and the CIA involvement in Contra cocaine trafficking in the U.S. scandal in 1985. He was awarded the George Polk Award for National Reporting in 1984 and the I.F. Stone Medal for Journalistic Independence by Harvard's Nieman Foundation in 2015. Parry was the editor of ConsortiumNews from 1995 until his death in 2018. The idea of this book was to examine how the two George Bushes intersected with important turning points of recent American history, not just what they did but how the surrounding events affected them, and how they affected the course of the American democratic experiment. While other authors have examined aspects of this extraordinary family dynasty, Robert Perry wanted to take a journalist's eye view of how the Bushes fit into various scandals and other momentous events from Watergate to Iraq. Tracing investigative leads back through three decades, Secrecy & Privilege explores the mystery of how the two George Bushes rose to the pinnacle of American political power -- and what the rise of their dynasty has meant to the nation's democratic principles.

Unbound. Zustand: Very Good. No publisher or place: (Los Angeles, 1991). 27 by 15 ½ inches. Glossy paper stock. A pro-abortion poster created by artist Robbie Conal, known for his postering of Los Angeles with art bearing his social commentary. After Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist issued his gag rule which forbade counsellors at federally subsidized planning clinics to refer clients to doctors who performed abortions, a group of women used this poster art (donated by Conal) to protest the ruling by hanging the posters up around Los Angeles. The group included Mary-Jane Wagle, Deanne Shartin and Ellen Levitt, among others. The group began their efforts in January of 1992. Some posters contained words added by the group, "Abortion is still legal. For information call your local family planning clinic." This particular copy does not, and matches a copy held in the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. VERY GOOD condition. Minor wrinkling. A few small bumps along the edges.
