Chaired by Sir Alan Wilson, the Committee on the Problem of Noise was commissioned by the government to examine the nature, causes and effects of noise pollution, and to recommend measures to combat it. Notably, the report highlighted effects on both the health and mental health of the public. The reports recommendations included introducing statutory noise limits for vehicles and aircrafts, promoting further research and spreading the word to the public.
