Colour woodblock print map, 99 x 68 cm with 19 x 26 cm extension, folding to 26.5 x18cm. Lacks the rear cover, front cover discoloured and soiled. Some small holes at fold lines and closed tears at margins have been neatly repaired with archival technical washi. A very good copy. This rare antique pictorial map of Osaka from 1863 shows the city at the end of Edo period in vivid colours. Osaka Castle is located on the eastern side and the city extends to the west. Major streets with their names are shown. Osaka was renowned as a city with waterways for many years and numerous rivers and canals are present in the map. The legends include major bridges with their scale (width and length) and special agricultural produce from various places in Osaka.…
