In den WarenkorbCloth. Zustand: Fine. Zustand des Schutzumschlags: Fine. Not Stated (illustrator). First edition. A very pleasing first edition of this illustrated history of Vauxhall Gardens, a public park in Kennington. First edition. Illustrated with almost three hundred images and plans, many of which are in colour. A detailed history of Vauxhall Gardens, a public park in Kennington in the London Borough of Lambeth, England, on the south bank of the River Thames. From their early beginnings in the Restoration until the final closure in Queen Victoria's reign, the gardens became a dream-world of visual arts and music. This volume explores the development of the gardens with commentary on their importance to the cultural and fashionable life of the country. Written by David Coke, an English historian and curator appointed Director of the Pallant House Gallery Trust in Chichester, and Alan Borg, an English historian who was formerly the Director of the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Imperial War Museum in London. Previously held in the library of Sir Roy Colin Strong, an English art historian, museum curator, writer, broadcaster and landscape designer. He has served as director of both the National Portrait Gallery and the Victoria and Albert Museum. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, excellent. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also excellent. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean throughout. Fine. book.
