Mit einfachen, raffinierten Tricks entwirft er Skulpturen, die sich durch Bewegung verwandeln: Entweder werden sie durch eine äußere Kraft vor dem Blick des Besuchers bewegt und verändert, oder die Bewegung des Besuchers lässt die Skulptur scheinbar stufenweise von einem Zustand in einen anderen wechseln. Wie bei einem Zaubertrick staunen wir, wenn wir beobachten, wie sich die Materie verwandelt, ein Motiv sich umkehrt oder in etwas anderes verwandelt, ein Wort sich selbst und sein Gegenteil darstellt, eine Silhouette dreidimensional wird. CECI CELA arbeitet nach dem gleichen Prinzip und setzt dabei auf einen neuen Trick: einen Spiegel. Vier Messingbuchstaben, CECI" (DIES"), sind an der Wand in der Nähe der Ecke angebracht. Sie spiegeln sich in einem Spiegel an der anderen Wand wider und ergeben CELA" (DAS"). Wie kann CECI" gleichzeitig CELA" sein? Warum spiegelt der Spiegel nicht genau dasselbe Bild wie das Modell? Dies zeigt, dass die Realität immer zwei Gesichter hat, zwei gegensätzliche Seiten, die nebeneinander existieren, und daher ist die eine auch die andere. Raetz lädt uns ein, dem oft trügerischen Schein zu misstrauen.…

He uses simple, ingenious tricks to design sculptures that are transformed by movement: either some external force makes them move and change as the visitor watches, or the visitor's own movement makes the sculpture seem to shift progressively from one state to another. As if watching a conjuring trick, we marvel as we watch the matter transform, a motif reverse or turn into something else, a word represent itself and its own opposite, a silhouette burst into three dimensions. CECI - CELA works on the same principle using a new stratagem in the form of a mirror. Four brass capital letters, 'CECI' ('THIS'), are attached to the wall near the corner. They are reflected in a mirror on the other wall, spelling 'CELA' ('THAT'). How can 'CECI' also be 'CELA'? Why does the mirror not reflect the exact same image as the model? This shows that reality always has two faces, two opposite sides that co-exist, and therefore one is also the other. Raetz invites us to mistrust appearances, which can often be deceptive.
