Anecdote follows anecdote about the charming and childlike Hawaiians and their rulers, about the first adventurous white men to settle there, about such eminent visitors as Mark Twain and the Duke of Edinburgh, about the bitter struggle between the Men of God and the Rum-swigging, love-seeking whalers and traders§each in defense of respective versions of Paradise which ended with a law forbidding men to sleep with their women in the streets." Mr. Clark presents a fascinating selection of short subjects demonstrating his ability to empathize and present history from different vantage points. Some are perhaps not quite historically correct or morally commendable, but never the less, very interesting reading. This particular copy in very good condition with its Rare dust jacket would be a choice addition to a Hawaiiana collection. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 3 pages.
