[4], vii-xxxvi, 37-641, [3] pp. Blue blindstamped publisher's cloth with gold lettering and decorations on the front board and spine; all edges sprinkled purple. Floral endpapers and pastedowns. With a frontispiece, seventeen full-page black and white illustrations, a folding ma…p, and around two hundred in-text engravings, head and tailpieces. Illustrations taken from the author's photographs, reproduced in facsimile in steel-plate engravings. First published in 1894, this is a lovely example of an early reprint. The authors' travel narratives are full of illustrations and descriptive passages of the people they met during their sojourn around the world. A touch of mellowing to the spine.
