La dorure tout comme l'argenture électrolytique est une technique propre à la Maison Christofle. L'or est présent dans le bain sous forme d'auro-cyanure, l'argent sous forme de grenaille. La pièce, soigneusement polie et nettoyée, est plongée dans un bain électrolytique et relié au pôle négatif. Au pôle positif est placé l'auto-cyanure. Charles Christofleachète lesbrevets d'argenture et de dorure par électrolyse en 1842 à Elkington. L'ouvrage retrace les aspects techniques du procédé par électrolyse et relate l'opposition à un certain Ruolz qui contestait le brevet de la maison Christofle et prétendait en avoir la paternité, mais il s'avéra que sa technique était différente et ne parvenait pas aux mêmes résultats. Gilding as well as electrolytic silvering is a technique specific to the House of Christofle. Gold is present in the bath in the form of aurocyanide, silver in the form of shot. The piece, carefully polished and cleaned, is immersed in an electrolytic bath and connected to the negative pole. At the positive pole is placed the aurocyanide. Charles Christofle purchased the patents for electrolytic silvering and gilding in 1842 from Elkington. The work traces the technical aspects of the electrolysis process and relates the opposition from a certain Ruolz who contested the Christofle house's patent and claimed to have fathered it, but it turned out that his technique was different and did not achieve the same results.
